This post talks about: 1998 Ford Econoline 150 Van 1998 Ford E150 Van Turn signals not working Turn signals out Hazard flasher not working Hazard flasher out I own a 1998 Ford E150 Van and today the turn signals and emergency flasher stop working for no apparent reason. This is the post I wish I had found online. Diagnosing turn signal problems: There are three things that I know of that can cause a turn signal to stop working. One is a burned out bulb. This usually causes the turn signal on one side to light up, but not flash on and off. By looking outside you can see which bulb is not turning on. Replacing it then involves removing some of the trim around the bulb and getting a new bulb at an auto parts store. Your owner's manual might give you some details and diagrams. The second thing I know can go wrong is a fuse can blow out. Your car has a large fuse box for all the various electrical systems in the car (lights, radio, horn, fans, etc.) In my E150, that fuse box is located in the driver's foot well, to the left and up near the dashboard. It's a large rectangular box (maybe 5" x 6") and there are two projections on the lid which you can squeeze together to remove the lid. This gives you a big array of brightly colored fuses. My owners manual has detailed info on the fuses, what each one is for and what amperage they should be. I also have one replacement fuse inside the lid for each amperage, and a handy fuse puller thing (sort of tweezers). I don't know the precise symptoms for a blown fuse because I been lucky enough to avoid that so far. The third thing is the "flasher relay". This is a little electronic box which apparently generates the on/off signals for the flashing lights. After I had pushed and pulled this trying (unsuccessfully) to remove it, a small amount of function returned to my turn signals. That is, when I put on a turn signal the lights would light up (including the little indicator arrow on the dashboard), but wouldn't flash. The hazard lights behaved the same way. The flasher relay is a rectangular box about 1" x 1" x 1.5". If you're looking square at the fuse box (which I think is actually impossible to do - but imagine it) the flasher is just to the side of the bottom right corner. It's mounted on a L-shaped metal bracket facing away from the driver so you can't even see the plug that is connected to it. I have *no idea* how to get the box off of that L-bracket. What I finally did was reach behind the old flasher, pull off the plug, plug it in to the new flasher (which was $10 at the auto parts store) and duct tape the new flasher to the old one. I must admit I was pleased with that last step. Until that point I'd had no excuse to use either my hammer or my duct tape on this project! :-) At any rate, the new flasher has my turn signals as good as new!
