Text:  Calculus by Hughes-Hallet, Gleason, McCallum, et al., 3rd edition.

 We will cover most of chapters 7-11 in this course.

 

Calculator: TI-89 graphing calculator.  This is the calculator that will be used for class

 demonstrations.  It is essentially the same as the TI-92.

 

Attendance:  It is expected that you will attend every lecture and quiz meeting.

 

Grading:         Three one-hour exams (100 pts each) to be held on:

Fri, Feb 10,  Mon, Mar 6, and  Fri, Apr 7

 

A two-hour final exam (200 pts) Wed, May 10 at 1:00PM

 

Seven short quizzes (20 pts each) given occasionally throughout the quiz sections.

The two lowest quiz grades will be dropped.

Grades will be assigned based on the percentage of total points earned

as follows:

 

    90% - 100%    A

    85% - 89%     AB

    78% - 84%     B

    73% - 77%     BC

    65% - 72%     C

    60% - 64%     CD

    50% - 59%     D

     0%  - 49%     F

 

Homework:  Throughout the semester, you will be given lists of suggested problems.  You are expected to do these problems.  If you have trouble doing them, you can get help in the quiz sections or at the calculus help desk.  The homework problems are the best way for you to check whether or not you really understand the material covered in class.
