Homework Assignment #12

History of Programming Languages
Due: Wednesday, Dec 7th, 11:00am CST
Submit: Turn in a two-page report (plus bibliography) on your assigned language, and slides for a 5-minute talk (PowerPoint or PDF) using the turnin command on the Systems Lab machines.
This assignment is to be completed individually.

The Paper

Give a brief overview of your assigned programming language.

Possible topics of interest:

Your paper should include a small snippet of example code in this language that demonstrates its typical syntax and any key innovations.

Your bibliography should cite primary sources about language history and features. Wikipedia is generally not considered a primary source.

The paper should be submitted in PDF format.

Papers will be graded on clarity, accuracy and completeness of information presented.

The Presentation

You have five minutes to explain to the rest of the class what they need to know about this language for the Final Exam. Emphasis should be on the historical place and significance of the language, but can include many of the bulleted items above.

Your talk should not exceed five well-constructed slides of material.

Slides should be submitted in PDF or PowerPoint format.

Talks will be presented in class on Wednesday, Dec 7th, in chronological language order.

Presentations will be graded on clarity, accuracy and completeness of information presented.

The Exam

The Final Exam will include a significant question on programming language history and significance. Your papers will be bound together and provided to the class as the study guide for this portion of the exam.
